This antique Afshar Sofreh flatweave rug was woven in the late 19th Century and features a geometric and curvilinear diamond totem pole design on a rich camel-colored field. This piece represents an early example of the limited Afshar sofrehs from this period. A ‘sofreh’ is a type of textile weaving that was a type of surface used for dining and eating without a table. Note: the eagle in the bottom right was added by someone other than the original artisan. Great as a wall hanging or drape over a table. Rare piece.
