One-of-a-kind, rare antique Kashan meditation rug. Sprouting up from a lower compartment containing scrolling arabesque vines in glowing red and camel. Two camel-ground trees of life, a profusion of stems bearing leaves and flowers, vivid red and turquoise. A third tree grows above them, filling the turquoise-outlined niche. The uppermost branch ends appear to depict bird or duck heads with bills. The wool is kurk, sheared from the necks of baby lambs, hand-spun, hand-dyed, and hand-woven with super-fine knotting. The result is a meditation rug comparable to stained glass in its presentation.
Original condition, extreme fine knotting. Ten colors. Hand-washed. Circa 1880.
