Antique Ersari Turkmen animal hair warp & weft rug. A 3-cord goat hair selvedge edge frames a chocolaty brown wool with lattice that floats across the purplish ground color below. At the same time, the ground color percolates up through the chocolate lattice rows of small lines/stitches. Ivory wool is used here, representing Talisman. The ivory wool in the Ersari carpets disappears later. A total of seven colors are present here. We know of no analogies to this tribal treasure. Please note. Hanging behind this Ersari rug on our floor is an important early 4 X 10 gol purple ground carpet that was woven by the Tekke Turkmen. The early 19th century, as a comparison. Posting of 4' X 10' Tekke to follow soon. Hand-washed.
