8'4" X 5'7" Antique Qashqai Shekarlu Carpet [SH-363]

Alternating totemic trees of ancient tribal motifs sprout between columns of birds head/animals hexagons/octagons. Alternating Gol center of pinwheels and hooked diamonds are bold and spacious, newer carpets become crowded with numerous small motifs. Dragons/S motifs guard stripes flank the distinctive border belonging to the Shekarlu Qashqai. Octagonal gols radiating animal/bird heads linked by a cross tree. Two color barber pole selvedge edge and striped kilim ends are found. A soft saturated wool of nine dyes, place this carpet amongst one of the best of this south Persia tribe, 2nd half of the 19th century. Original condition. Hand washed. 8'4" X 5'7"
