Collector's Notes
This rare antique Caucasian Shirvan rug was woven in the late 19th Century and features an unusually fine weave of eight 'Akstafa' like bird medallions intricately decorated floating on a dark brown background. Interspersed are a variety of design ornaments including people, animals, tribal amulets and geometric shapes. All surrounded by a leaf and calyx style (wine glass) border.
