9'5" X 3'3" Afshar Fish and Boteh Rug [SH-384]

On page 165, Parviz Tanavoli illustrates on plate 90, an Afshar spoon bag. The field motifs are of a fish with botehs. He states it is rare and interesting from the Sirjan region. Here we show an Afshare rug with the same all-over field design. Green and electrical blue. The boteh alternates direction in alternating rows. The grow out of vine-like strap work rose madder fish sits between them. None of the weavings in the above-mentioned book shows our main border. A version of this border appears in plate 47, Afshar. We know of no comparable rugs. A tribal masterwork, 9 colors, hand-washed. Kilim ends in original condition, except for one visiable are of a expert early rewoven area.
