A tribal rug woven in the Khorasan, N.E. Persia by Kurdish Baluch, nectarine blossoms (Gol Shaftalu), emerge from a red madder honeycomb; their floral centers are different and alternate. Three rows of five, twin columns support the honeycomb. Diamond centers radiate ivory flowers. Two sets of outer/inner minor borders are lovely and frame the center panel and the main border. Note the deep blue twin eagles with paired wings. A crest T above and tiny cruciforms, horns?
The main border is well drawn, flowing in a continuous stepped vine of hooked bird heads. This rug dates from the 1880s and has a full, lustrous wool pile. The six dyes natural and saturated with patina. Original lovely kilim ends and in original condition. Two cord selvedge sides. Hand-washed.
