  • 2'2 X 2'0 Antique Persian Qashqai Square Bag [TAK0070]

    Collector's Notes

This antique Qashqai bagface was woven in the late 19th Century by the artisans of southwest Persia. This bag is all original and the flatwoven kilim back is fully intact, a rare find. It features a vibrant array of saturated colors including cochineal-carmine red center and dark-blue background. The central ivory colored rosette motif has two latchhook diamond elements extending top and bottom with two floating left and right. An intricate weave at the least with a variety of motifs interspersed throughout. Collector's piece. Great wall hanging or accenting room piece.

Note: the Qashqai were known for their classic knotted pile bags and bag faces featuring large central diamonds usually outlined with ivory bird latchhooks and interspersed with animal motifs.
