  • 7'9" X 4'1" Kizil Ayak Turkmen [SH-359]

Kizil Ayak Turkmen. This piece showcases the weaving techniques of the Kizil Ayak tribe from Afghanistan. It features five rows of trees, with 23 compartments depicting opposing water birds that convey a sense of tension. Zooming into one compartment reveals three distinct creature shapes. Each water bird is represented in pairs, with one depicted in a madder red negative space. Pay attention to the inner ribbon border that runs along the length of the piece, creating a silky, dense pile across each compartment. The work incorporates six colors and is finished with a four-cord goat hair selvedge.
